Home extension by SFAB in the Lyon region
Beautiful projects are often born from a slightly crazy desire, a little out of the ordinary. The owner of this traditional style house in the Lyon region wanted a radical change, light and contrast, as well as a secure future by rethinking the accessibility of the house. For this, he called on Installux's partner manufacturer, SFAB.
Aesthetic and contemporary home extension
The main idea of this renovation was to give the house a facelift, or even to radically change its character, by creating an extension on the first floor, with a resolutely contemporary look, very pure and open to the garden.
Thus, after a few months of work, a new living room was created in place of the façade and its classic set of windows. The project involved both the creation of custom-made joinery and the creation of sections of masonry to conceal a lift, support the levels and accommodate the aluminium frames. The great success of the project consists of the creation of a sliding corner window, with 4 wings, with a width of more than 5 m and a return of 1.60 m.
The fronts offer doors as well as double-leaf Galaxie 32TH sliders. The slim, sand grey tinted profiles are both elegant and discreet and do not block the view.
The same spirit guided the design of the glazed balustrade on the terrace area, for a safe in/out effect.
The new space was intended to integrate an organic whole comprising kitchen and living room. In other words, a place that people frequent regularly, where life should be good.
Objective: elegance
Beautiful projects are often born of a desire that is a little crazy, a little out of the ordinary. The owner of this traditional-style house in the Lyon region wanted a radical change, light and contrast, as well as a secure future by rethinking the accessibility of the house.
For this, he called on Installux’s partner manufacturer, SFAB.
Contemporary spirit and clean lines
Everything, from the window frames to the entrance and garage doors and the railings on the upper floor, is designed in a symbiosis of clean lines and a modern atmosphere. The special thing about aluminium is that it can be used to create profiles that are both very thin and very strong. This is exactly what was required here: the design of the corner slide required a great deal of skill in both planning and installation, and the desired appearance would never have been possible with heavier, less discreet profiles. As it is, they are completely hidden in the roof overhang and the side walls.
Only a central concrete pillar is visible, which reminds the masonry structure in a very modern way. In the open position, the slider is invisible and the view is unobstructed. The various accessories also play the card of contemporary elegance, from the designer pull handles to the minimalist railing that gives a cruise ship effect. The same aesthetic choice guided the design of the glazed entrance door with a fixed bay window, so that all the house’s joinery is consistent.
The sliding door: an ally for the most design-oriented projects
The great strength of the sliding system lies in its design, which is geared towards bays with maximum opening and large clearances of glazing. Thanks to the high inertia of the profiles, it is possible to design leaves weighing up to 200 kg that can be operated with a simple hand movement.
The design is discreet and the principle of the sliding door, where an open leaf disappears completely into the wall, is a guarantee of pure lines.
Customer testimonials
“I have worked for a long time with people with reduced mobility and it seemed obvious to me, when the terrace had to be redone, to take this parameter into account, this necessary to take into account this parameter, this necessary accessibility to be implemented for the future. The project therefore revolved around the installation of a lift, which led to a real redesign of the house’s façade.
On top of that, we wanted to push the boundaries, to open up the view completely. It was a real challenge that our SFAB craftsman took up brilliantly!”

The professional’s analysis
“Initially, it was an architect with whom we work regularly who spoke to me about the project and introduced the client. It was a beautiful renovation-extension project, ambitious and elegant.
Our role was to provide technical expertise on the joinery, on how to arrange them and how to use their full performance. Advice, reliability, but also the ability to ensure good cohesion”
