A renovation of exception
A granite architect's house with a slate roof that had lain dormant for years met its new owners during COVID. A time when everything had to be reinvented, and this achievement was no exception. The owners called on an interior designer and ML Solutions, Installux partner artisan manufacturer, to create their dream home.
The craftsman manufacturer accompanied his customers through all the transformations of this unique sea-view location in the heart of Finistère, Brittany (France). A renovation project where the key word was: light.
A project 100% joinery
This renovation required the installation of 38 aluminum frames combining sliding bays, French windows, windows, and a breathtaking glass facade. The craftsman manufacturer combined high-performance Installux joinery with solar control glazing. In the kitchen, the aluminum fabricator joiner designed a suite of sashes and fixed frames to brighten the room and give a verrière spirit. He chose Espace® 70TH windows in both traditional sash and fixed frame versions. The aim of the latter being to create a single opening on the main façade of the house to bring even more light into the interior and an additional view of the sea.
To design the openings in the main living areas, the manufacturer installed Galaxie® 32TH sliding bays. These include a 2-track, 2-panel sliding system and a 3-track, 3-panel sliding system. What's more, on the first floor, each bedroom is equipped with a slider to access a balcony and a small individual terrace. There are at least 6 niches installed in the house, distributed over the various roof facades.
Light is accentuated right down to the doors. Indeed, the craftsman chose Comète® 70TH glass doors to optimize the brightness of each opening. In addition, each joinery unit is fitted with traditional roller shutters.
The glass roof at the heart of the renovation
The living room's monumental glass façade is one of the centerpieces of this renovation. The fixed transom, equipped with a brise soleil, had to be perfectly integrated into the house and respect the dimensions of the former curtain wall. The installation on the stone wall required great technical precision to ensure that all the waterproofing was perfect. To avoid the risk of thermal bridging, the craftsman manufacturer carried out the complete removal of the glass roof without a concrete straightening strip on the stone wall.
In addition, it was necessary to play with heights. Indeed, the glass roof falls flush with the parquet floor on the inside, but rises higher on the outside. This source of light accentuates the ceiling height. To dress up the space, the manufacturer also designed the dais with the staircase.
Light and baylight: A morale booster
Thanks to the slimness of Installux aluminum profiles, you're sure to optimize bay clearances and let maximum light into your home.
Choose the most appropriate exposure for your bays according to the climatic specifics of your region. If you're in a cooler region, choose a southern exposure. On the contrary, if you're in a hot, sunny region, favor North or East.
Testimony
The manufacturer's advice
The customer wanted window doors with exterior handles, which would require a lot of keys. There was also the risk of leaving a door open. So we recommended a knob to replace the keys. This way, they can access the house from the terrace without worry. And it's easier to lock up with the knobs.
We ask our customers a lot of questions upstream of the project to understand why they want to change their sashes. We ask them if they want to change everything, or get the same result but better. We need to take the time to understand the customer's psychology, because there are a lot of emotional factors involved. And affect very often takes precedence over total change. It's all about getting to know the customer, so as to offer the right product. With us, all quotations take place in the showroom, so that we can show customers our joinery models. .
