The conservatory project: creating an "inside-outside" space sheltered from the elements

A few kilometers from Paris, Maisons-Alfort's old buildings bear witness to a rich past, marked by the different eras that have succeeded one another. In particular, you'll find stone houses with authentic charm, like this one renovated over time.

Surrounding Maisons-Alfort are a number of villages with a similar character. In one of them, a house stands proudly. And it can, because the sandy color of its stones and the surrounding greenery make it so sunny!
A pure call to calm and well-being. For its owners, a couple with children, leisure time is an important part of life, whether spent alone or with others. Passionate about pastry-making, the owner began several years ago to transform the old barn adjoining the house into a genuine leisure space. How did he do this? By setting up his gourmet laboratory. As the years went by, the desire to exploit all the space still available in this barn for fun, enjoyment and hospitality got the whole family on board.

To do so, they called on Installux Partner artisan manufacturer Chevalier, based in the Auxerrois region of France, who are experts in this type of environment.

Challenge: Make the most of the conservatory in all seasonsAnd get a taste for light...

The family had converted a small space upstairs into a cocooning corner for resting, reading and chatting. Their idea was to extend it by encroaching on the adjoining terrace. Some twenty square meters that were not intended to be used all year round.

The owners wanted to make the most of it, of course, but without having to heat it. In this sense, Installux's tubular Luciole® extension was perfectly suited.

The Espace® 50TH thermal break windows and patio doors are a guarantee of comfort and security. A true windbreak that nonetheless lets the sun naturally heat the space.

During the day, the room is illuminated by natural daylight. And, as soon as night falls, lighting integrated directly into the roof takes over.
Customers were immediately won over by the shape of the conservatory.
A little touch of modernity that gives this stone house a style all its own.

A new dimension

Today, this new space offers a 360° view of the property and its surroundings, thanks to its high positioning and the choice of fully glazed vertical walls. The conservatory incorporates a set of custom-built fixed and sliding frames, and is installed to the highest standards, integrating into the existing structure down to the last centimeter.

High-precision workmanship for a perfectly insulated renovation. This new living space is totally independent but actively participates in the architecture of the property.

Finally, to ensure the aesthetic homogeneity of the place, the color of the conservatory was also given special attention. A light gray was chosen to be in total harmony with the house's doors and shutters.

A new cachet for this beautiful home!

Testimony

Professional analysis

The customers wanted to benefit from an interior living space, open to the outside. A project which, in this kind of old building, requires a lot of thought. In this region, there's no room for improvisation: everything is regulated and protected. So we approached the Direction Départementale des Territoires (DDT) to find out exactly what possibilities were open to us. The terrace on the upper part of the barn could, as the owners had imagined, be covered, but under certain architectural conditions. The Installux conservatory with tubular roof was the perfect solution. The challenge was to integrate aluminum in a "natural" way. The conservatory had to become a new living space that was as pleasant to use as it was to contemplate. Under no circumstances was it to detract from the building's original aesthetic. .
